Humanin

A 24-amino-acid peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA (16S rRNA gene), the first mitochondrial-derived peptide identified. Humanin is known for neuroprotective and cytoprotective properties.

Mechanism of action
Humanin binds several receptors, including FPRL1 and the gp130 receptor complex, and inhibits the pro-apoptotic protein Bax inside the cell.
