Growth hormone axis
Follistatin 344
Also known as: FST-344, Activin-Bindeprotein, Myostatin-Inhibitor
A naturally occurring glycoprotein that potently inhibits activin and myostatin. Follistatin-344 is studied in muscle and reproductive research.
Structure
- Sequence
- 344 amino acids (Glykoprotein, keine lineare Peptidsequenz)
- Molecular formula
- Glykoprotein
- Molecular weight
- ~38,000 Da
- Amino acids
- 344
Mechanism of action
Follistatin binds activin and myostatin (GDF-8) with high affinity and prevents them from reaching activin type II receptors. Neutralising myostatin removes its brake on muscle growth, which led to marked muscle hypertrophy in animal models.
