Growth hormone axis
Sermorelin
Also known as: Geref, GRF 1-29, GHRH(1-29)NH₂
A synthetic analogue of the first 29 amino acids of natural growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Sermorelin was the first approved GHRH analogue and is a reference substance in growth hormone research.
Structure
- Sequence
- Tyr-Ala-Asp-Ala-Ile-Phe-Thr-Asn-Ser-Tyr-Arg-Lys-Val-Leu-Gly-Gln-Leu-Ser-Ala-Arg-Lys-Leu-Leu-Gln-Asp-Ile-Met-Ser-Arg-NH₂
- Molecular formula
- C₁₄₉H₂₄₆N₄₄O₄₂S
- Molecular weight
- 3,357 Da
- Amino acids
- 29
- Half-life
- ~10–20 minutes
Mechanism of action
Sermorelin binds the GHRH receptor in the pituitary and stimulates the synthesis and pulsatile release of growth hormone. Unlike exogenous growth hormone, the natural IGF-1 feedback stays intact.
